What is Windows?

Windows - is a software that operates the computer system. it uses graphics or pictures to show commands and programs.

Program - is a set of instructions that the computer follows.

Elements of the Window Screen

Parts of Windows Desktop

Desktop - the overall work area of windows.

Desktop Icons - small pictures on the desktop that represents a program.

Start Menu - a button on the taskbar that shows a list of programs, documents and special commands that help you to open a program and do important functions in the computer.

Taskbar - a rectangular bar found at the bottom of the desktop.

Quick Launch Toolbar - provides a quick access to the programs such as Internet Explorer, Desktop, and other most commonly used programs.

System Tool Bar - provides a quick access to system programs such as system date and time, volume control and desktop themes.

Parts of a Window

Title Bar - it is located at the upper part of the window. it displays the title of the application and the name of the file being used.

Application Icon - an icon beside the title bar. it shows the Control menu. it lets you choose from a list of commands what to do with your window.

Close button - it closes the application window or exits the program.

Minimiza button - it shrinks the application window into a small bar and places it in the taskbar.

Restore button - it returns the window screen to its original size.

Maximize button - it stretches the application window to fill the entire screen.

Menu Bar - it has a menu that contain different sets of commands which one can use in any other application.

Tool Bar - it shows different buttons for commands to make them easy to use.

Scroll bar - it allows one to see other items on the screen that are not visible or seen at the moment.

Status Bar - it gives information about a particular object on the screen.
